Everything Zen…

A rare post on music.

I was a big fan of the band Bush in the mid and late ’90s. I hated to see them break up as I really liked their music. However, Gavin Rossdale (the leader singer of Bush) has now put out a CD under the band name Institute.. All I can say is its EXCELLENT! My favorite track is “Boom Box”.

I might also make mention that on DirectTV I saw a documentary for Audioslave as they became the first American band to perform in Cuba. I’m pretty sure I don’t agree with their politics, but its hard to beat Chris Cornell.

If you have a chance, check these selections out.

Emotions…

Our wedding video arrived early last week just in time for our reception this past Saturday night.  To be honest, I had dreaded its arrival.

You see, during our lovely beach wedding, I got emotional during the part where we repeated our vows.  As I do often, I overthink things and I remember thinking how embarrassing it might be to lose it for all to see.  And my self-fulfilling prophecy was indeed fulfilled.

As the vows elevated in meaning and commitment, I could feel the emotion welling up.  And finally I had a long pause as I tried to fight off the emotion.  Finally, I got the words out, but it was sort of a cry-talk kinda thing.  And the next line was subject to the same delivery, though it came much faster.  After those two vows, I was able to get it together.

The effect of my showing emotion sent Suzanne to an emotional state too.  And while she didn’t lose it quite like I did, you could tell that we were both very caught up in what we were saying.

So when the video arrived, I wasn’t quite sure what to expect.  But as we previewed it, I found myself getting teary again.  And then again as we watched it with her parents and then again with my parents.  And as it turned out, several women at the reception came back with tears in their eyes.  So I guess the emotion helped to solidify the meaning and importance of the event.

I have subsequently heard that one couple now wishes to renew their vows after seeing us in the video.  So I guess I should be a little less embarrassed and be okay with being human.  Emotions are all part of life and shouldn’t always be suppressed.

Aggie Vindication…

For those who sent email to me or mentioned it in conversation, the mystery of the Texas A&M Bookstore with the plywood applied inside (for hurricane preparation) is solved.  And so it appears we Aggies aren’t as dumb as we were made to look.

The vindicating story is available on Snopes here.  In short, the outside window frames could not support the weight of the plywood.  So the decision was made to sacrifice the easily replaceable glass, but save the contents of the store.

So while that mystery is solved, I do not know who kidnapped our football team these past two weeks against Texas State and Baylor respectively.  Both were very unimpressive wins.

But, Gig ‘em nonetheless…

SOA 2.0…

With all the talk about Web 2.0 on the blogosphere this week, I thought this post talking about SOA 2.0 might be interesting reading to the techies out there.

My favorite possibility is “uncontrolled reuse”…

Hats off to the NHL…

One quick sports prediction here.

The NHL opens its season this week with a fresh set of rules designed to increase scoring — it basically looks like basketball on ice to me. The number of power plays was up significantly in the preseason and though I don’t have statistical proof, I’m pretty sure scoring was up as well.

So my prediction…there will be a record number of Hat Tricks this year. So if you go to a game, consider which hat you might be donating to tradition.

If you aren’t familiar with the term Hat Trick, read about it here.

Green with envy…

Check out this site.  I’m sure he’ll appreciate the trackback, but he certainly doesn’t need it.

The site sells advertising pixels in blocks of 100 and each pixel sells for $1.  So far he’s made a quarter of a million.  Unbelievable.

I have tried far harder to make far less.  So the most profitable ideas do not require as much work as you think.

More Bathroom Humor…

Filed under: Life — Bill Eisenhauer at 11:36 pm on Saturday, October 1, 2005

Two more incidents happened this week…surpisingly in the same “session”:

  1. Sitting in the stall, but someone else is occupying the stall next to me. He does an “incremental flush!” I had seen this done at the urinal, but never while sitting at a stall. What could that be all about?
  2. After finishing business, I flushed and the commode continued to flush despite my attempts to unstick it. As I bailed out of the stall and washed my hands, I was rather embarrassed as others knew I was responsible for the toilet flushing. But what was I to do?

Bathrooms continue to be a source of amusement to me, though I’m not quite sure why I’m the only one to point out some of the phenomenon that all of us must obviously encounter.
