Google is Everywhere?

Filed under: Web/Tech — Bill Eisenhauer at 2:39 pm on Wednesday, September 21, 2005

Wow!  I recently bought a Linksys Range Extender to cover some wireless dead spots in my own house.  However, according to this it looks like Google may be working on a HUGE Wi-Fi network and thus maybe I wasted my money!

If this is true, a lot of business models will be trashed, but having widespread Wi-Fi coverage would be a great step forward to most.

How well does the extender work? Three peeps at New Egg think quite poorly:

They may be right. To be honest, I bought in on Monday, but aside from plugging it in briefly, I’ve not set it up yet.

However, I noticed that every shrink-wrapped box had a discount on it. This is the kind of discount you see when its been returned. I thought surely these weren’t all returns. But in opening the box, the Quick Start guide refers to a Users Manual which I did not get in my packaging.

So maybe it doesn’t work and I’m just the next in line to find out.
