Best NFL Playoff Weekend Ever?

Yesterday, Carolina beat St. Louis 29-23 in two overtimes. Both teams had missed field goals in each OT. And St. Louis played conservatively in kicking a field goal to tie the game at the end of regulation. They had enough time to perhaps get a winning touchdown instead. Nonetheless, this was a great game.

Last night, New England grinded a win over Tennessee 17-14 with a late fourth quater field goal. The game time temperature was 2 degrees and the wind chill was -11.

Today, Indianapolis beat Kansas City in KC 38-31. Peyton Manning and the Colts were nearly flawless and their punter hasn’t touched the field in their first two playoff games. Kansas City played well offensively, but just couldn’t stop the Colts.

And then Philadelphia beat Green Bay 20-17 after Green Bay played conservatively late in regulation. They could have run the ball on 4th and 1 to run out the clock. Instead, they punted and later permitted a game-tying field goal. Philadelphia scored on their second possession in overtime — a possession made possible by an out-of-character Brett Favre interception.

All in all, great games. All with intrigue and second-guessing. Let’s hope that next week and more importantly, the Super Bowl are equally as entertaining.

Dallas Stars fan on Mars

I was at the Dallas Stars vs. Atlanta Thrashers hockey game last night with a couple of friends.

That’s nothing unusual and I’ve been to hundreds of games. But what did strike me as funny is that some clever marketing/entertainment type had taken the first color image of Mars and augmented it to include the popular “we’re number one” sign and placed it on the overhead video screen. So picture a green hand with the index finger extended with Stars colors randomly placed as an object within the picture.

I thought it was extremely clever…

Good Books!

I have just finished two of Dan Brown’s books: “The Da Vinci Code” and “Angels and Demons.” I read them in the order listed, but if you read them, read the latter first as that’s the predecessor.

I don’t have the time to read novels, unfortunately. Most of my reading time is spent on computer industry, home improvement, and self improvement books.

But after reading “The Da Vinci Code,” I’m not devouring all of Dan Brown’s books. He writes in exactly the style I need to get through a book. There’s always intrigue about something. The chapters are always pretty short. And the content is always interesting.

I’m now 100 pages into “Deception Point” and I’m sure I’ll work through “Digital Fortress” after that. If you have the time and you have an interest in mysteries involving religion, art, and European settings, then the first two that I mentioned are for you.

Or if you would rather just watch movies, “The Da Vinci Code” is being made into a movie. Sorry, no word on the release, but after reading the book, I would think it’d be a pretty good movie.

For those who watch “24″ which is the TV show based upon disaster and relief all within a 24 hour period, these two books will remind you of that. The main character has two pretty long and challenging days.

Thankfully, my life doesn’t align to what I read…
